Corned Beef

Corned beef hash is one of those dishes that you could eat basically any time of the day, at breakfast, lunch or dinner. The best part is you can prepare and cook it really quick. Here is how I do mine.

Corned Beef

Ingredients:

1 Can of Corned Beef
2 Small sized potato, diced in ΒΌ inches
1 Small onion, sliced thinly
1 Small bay leaf
2 Cloves of garlic, smashed
1 Teaspoon MSG
Salt & Pepper to taste (S&P)

Directions:

In a skillet saute garlic until golden brown and then add onion and cook until it hits the shiny stage. Add corned beef and break it apart. Cover and let it cook for 3 minutes on medium low heat. Add potatoes, bay leaf, MSG, and pepper. Stir, cover, and let it simmer for 12 more minutes on medium low heat. Stir again and add salt just before serving. Enjoy!

    Hi there!
    How are you doing?

This looks like a great alternative to just adding onions (as I usually do!) Corned beef is usually my “I don’t know what to eat” choice… sort of a last-minute-must-eat-now-or-I’ll-pass-out kind of meal :p I’ll have to take more time to fancy it up sometime πŸ˜‰

I noticed you still have a link to my old blog on WordPress in your left sidebar… I’ve moved my blogs to my own domain some time ago. “Nemo’s Kitchen” can now be found at http://kitchen.daily-dabble.com πŸ˜‰ Come check it out sometime!
I don’t post recipes very often as I’m not cooking much due to various personal reasons, no real stove and oven being the main reason! I hope to get that all sorted out by the end of the year or early next year at the latest πŸ˜‰

Hope you have a fantastic rest of the day!

You actually use MSG? I don’t think I’ve seen a bottle of MSG since I was going through my boyfriend’s cabinet, gasped and threw it out! Hahaha.

we don’t have vetsin in the kitchen because they say it’s bad for the health… but i’ll try to do your recipe without the MSG. thanks! =D

Great post! Thanks for putting this up, I had forgotten how to make it, such a good recipe!! πŸ™‚ I love eating this with just rice but sometimes I feel guilty because there are no vegetables..
I’ve personally never added the MSG because I think the corned beef is often quite salty enough, and I usually add a chopped tomato or a can or diced tomato which adds a nice flavour.. πŸ™‚

my dad adds chopped cabbage(for some fiber) and a cup of water (to nicely soak the rice when served). love this dish.

  6. You can add water if you want I just want mine dry.

I thought you are going to make/marinate ttyhe corned beef. You know the usual corned beef not in the can.

  8. Hi syd004,

Unfortunately, this is the Filipino version and the British one. Sorry to disappoint you, but if you google it I am sure there are many good recipes out there for you.

Thanks for this post! Love everything except the msg part. Sorry, I know corned beef is not exactly healthy either. I love it though but don’t want to add anything that will potentially cause serious illness. Thanks for posting the pics, too! πŸ™‚

  10. Hi Carter,

Yes, a lot of people has strong opinion about MSG and I respect that. On the other hand, this is a recipe site and not a restaurant, so you can always omit whatever ingredient or seasoning you don’t like to use in your food. I do used MSG for the most, but not always. The truth is in todays food industry it’s almost imposible to avoid consuming MSG since it is present in 90% of the food that we buy.

They are used in canned goods, potato chips and even in fresh fruits such as tomatoes and dairy products it has glutamate in it. Whether they are commercially or naturally produced glutamate is glutamate. Anyway, that’s just an FYI in-case you’re not aware of it.

i’ve never included bayleaf. Does it work better?
Also for some reason, my family has pickles on the side. Works well. Sometimes we eat it with pickle relish.

My lola always put potatoes on her cornedbeef! But when I get lazy I use the frozen peas, corn and carrot instead. And sometimes I add a bit of tomato ketchup to give it a different flavour! I love cornedbeef!
